New Delhi: A sudden fire broke out outside Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar Metro Station on Wednesday evening. The blaze started at a small pizza shop located near Gate No. 2. Thick smoke quickly filled the area and people rushed away in panic. Nearby shopkeepers shut their shutters within seconds. Commuters coming out of the metro were confused for a moment. Many thought something had happened inside the station. Videos of smoke rising spread online within minutes.

How Did Fire Crews Respond?

The fire was reported around 4:45 PM. The call triggered an urgent response from the fire department. The nearest fire crew was dispatched immediately. Fire Officer Nitin reached the site and took charge of the operation. The smoke around the shop was heavy and blocked visibility. Firefighters first tried to reach the main source of the flames. Police officers also started clearing the crowd gathered outside the station. Every minute mattered as the fire was close to a busy public spot.

How Was The Blaze Controlled?

Fire engines were positioned in front of the shop. Water hoses were opened and the first round of spraying began. The team worked to create ventilation and push the smoke out. Firefighters also checked the back side of the shop to prevent the flames from spreading. Electricity to the shop was immediately cut off. Police formed a barrier to keep people away from the danger zone. Slowly the flames reduced as continuous water spraying cooled the area. By then, the situation was coming under control.

Was There Any Major Damage?

Officials said the fire was largely controlled within a short time. However, the shop suffered noticeable damage. The front area of the shop was completely burnt. Items inside were destroyed by smoke and heat. Nearby shops remained safe because they closed in time. There were no reports of injuries or casualties. The fire department is still assessing the full extent of the losses. A formal damage report is expected after inspection.

Why Did People Panic Nearby?

The area is always crowded because of the metro station. The moment smoke was seen, people assumed a major mishap. Some passengers ran towards the other side of the road. Videos show people shouting and trying to move away quickly. Crowds gathered near barricades set by police. Shopkeepers were seen pulling down shutters immediately. Social media posts added to the confusion for some time. Police kept requesting people not to panic and to stay clear of the area.

Did Metro Services Get Affected?

Authorities confirmed that metro services continued normally. The fire was outside the station premises. No smoke entered inside the metro building. All entry and exit gates remained open. Commuters were guided away from the fire-affected zone. Station staff monitored the situation throughout the evening. Extra security personnel were placed near Gate No. 2. Train operations ran without any delay or disruption.

How Were Things By Evening?

By around 7 PM, the fire was fully extinguished. Firefighters stayed at the site for precautionary checks. Police sealed the area for nearly two hours for safety. News agency ANI released visuals from the location. Fire tenders and officers were seen working on the ground. Cleanup work continued till late evening. Local traffic returned to normal slowly.
